- Make your children your first priority. Children need to be loved and parents must make them feel secure, significant and valuable.
- Study your children! Know who they are, what have. Watch over them diligently ...where they are, who they associate with. What they are watching on TV, what they listen to, etc. Get involved and stay involved.
- Look for moral issues to talk about. You can encourage your child to think about issues by asking "what if?", "how do you feel about this?" etc.
- Talk to your children about respect for life, war and peace , threats to the environment, the plight of the poor, violent video games, pornography, immodest clothes, etc. If you've taken a stand in the workplace or public arena, share that with your children. Stands like these define their values.
- Make an effort to expose children to what is uplifting, noble and heroic. Sometimes the papers have stories of integrity, courage or compassion. Share them with your children
- Keep control over the home! Your children must know who is in control.
- If you see your child doing something good, appreciate him/her. Bring out the good whenever possible.... and try to re-shape any tendency towards and behavior.
- Discipline them wisely. Give them responsibilities in family life, house work and other tasks.
- Teach by example. It includes treating your children with love and respect, but it goes beyond that. It has to do with how you treat your spouse - something that children have countless opportunities to observe. When you fight, do fight fair? What kind of language do you use? Do you reconcile soon, or stay angry?
- Foster spiritual development. Talk to your children about religious values and help them to deepen their faith.
