The side effects of smoking are known to all. Smoking is not only harmful for the smoker but also for the one who is around the him. Since the baby's body system is extremely delicate , the effects of passive smoking in the baby are more adverse.

SIGNIFICANT LEVELS of nicotine and carcinogenic compounds have been found in babies as young as three months, raising fears that some children are being harmed by passive cigarette from birth. Such exposure to nicotine could increase the chances of a child becoming addicted later in life. Other compounds raise the risk of the child developing smoking-related cancers, including lung, bladder, mouth, liver, kidney, and pancreas.

The take-home message is that parents should not smoke around their children, because they will suffer from the exposure.

Persistent exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in childhood could be related to cancer later in life. A child born into a home shared with smokers has the 25% greater risk to developing lung cancer. So if you are into the habit of smoking then make sure that you avoid smoking in vicinity of your baby. Give priority to your baby's health over your addictions , after all he is going to be your support in the later life.
